Joe Blados' Crease Fly
By Joe Blados

Joe Blados is a fishing guide, fly tier, and welder based in Greenport, NY. Greenport is the primary harbor on the North Fork of Long Island, an area known for its agriculture, shellfish farms, striped bass, bluefish, bonito and false albacore. Two hours due east from Manhattan you’ll find a beautiful and dynamic fishery with access to Peconic Bay, Long Island Sound, and the North Atlantic Ocean.

Time spent in this fishery inspired Joe to invent the Crease Fly, a pattern that is now used by anglers around the globe in both saltwater and fresh. Over the years, the pattern has become well known for its unique topwater action and the resulting effectiveness.

We are lucky enough to have fished and hung out with Joe in Long Island a handful of times, and even luckier to have him agree to do a tutorial of how he ties his patented Crease Fly for our audience. All Joe asked was that we remunerate him in the form of a bottle of his favorite hooch, Dobel Tequila. We hope you enjoy the fly tying video as much as Joe enjoyed the tequila, cheers!
